There was only one FANTASTIC thing about our stay at the Montein Hotel -- it was a certain staff member who worked there, he was amazing -- he has been there for 10+ years and it shows. We arrived at the Montein and it started with slow service at reception, they showed us to our rooms. We opened our doors to find all four rooms we had booked were with two single beds and they smelt horrible of cigarette smoke. We then spoke to the staff to arrange 4 non-smoking rooms with double beds. We were moved to another level and again received rooms with were smoking rooms - -and we know this for sure because we saw the staff member go into one of the rooms and grab the ash tray and held it behind his back. A smoking room wouldn't have been too bad if it wasn't for my sister who was/is pregnant. We then told the staff members we wish to change rooms for the third time to NON SMOKING and if this wasn't available we said we would find somewhere else to stay. They took us to deluxe rooms which were alot bigger but still smelt of cigarettes. So in the end, we were sick and tired of changing rooms, moving our bags around all for one nights stay. We put up with it and would NEVER EVER recommend this hotel again. They are very old, the carpet is about 20 years old, smells like smoke.

Stayed here by myself, overnight stay in Bangkok before flight the next day. Very nice, I was a female alone & stayed here for a bit of luxury, the people were very friendly, good room with tv & nice bathroom. Breakfast was excellent! Loads of choice! Everything you can imagine. Near to Patpong markets & just a tuk tuk away from the large shopping centres. Staff very helpful but were a bit offended when i went to change my shoes in the lobby :) Had to go to the bathroom!
