We stayed in Meritus Mandarin for 3 nights in February 2008. This is an overall average hotel, but the fact that we paid circa SGD 700 per room per night; we felt it is not worth it. Do try elsewhere within Orchard Road.
Our main complain for our room and stay in Meritus Mandarin are the "ugly smell" & "bad odours" on our pillows and poorly served breakfast.
We doubt we will ever return to this hotel again, unless we get a better deal. Besides this hotel has the busiest hotel lobby ever due to the large number of rooms in Meritus Mandarin.

First of all I will just say the nights I spent here were the most comfortable sleeps I have ever had. I thought I was sleeping on a cloud. The rest of the room (floor 17) was great as well, nicely decorated - TV needed updating but it only got used twice. The bathroom is fantastic marble which I love. Room seemed small but it did have two double/queen beds in it so I guess it would of seemed bigger had it just been the one bed. In room safe which is great and a reasonably pleasent view of the city.
Beer was overpriced in the hotel. Loss of points there.
The pool was great. I believe it was on the fifth floor in between the two towers. Looked great and there was also a spa, sauna, gym and steam room which were fantastic on the 30-somthing floor.
Service/Staff: Fantastic! So friendly to others I have come across in Singapore. Pool, cleaning, reception and catering staff were so friendly and helpful in every aspect. On a few occasions I was asked to leave the foyer area by door staff but this was probably due to the fact I had slept on the floor of a tokyo apartment the last week after consuming 100 beers a day - so I looked pretty awful and understood them asking me to leave. And they were very apologetic afterwards.
Location Location Location: Staying on Orchad Road is a must. It is close to everything you want to be close to. Looks great at night.

We have stayed in this hotel over the last 15 years, probably about 18 times in all. Originally, it was an excellent hotel, with many staff who had been their a long time, things worked, check-in and -out was civilised and reservations honoured. Last year, the hotel, its staff and facilities were noticeably shaky, and this year they were appalling. On check in (de luxe king room, Grand Tower) we were told that this tower was closed, and were shown a pokey room in the south tower. The porter advised us to try again, and I spoke to a manager, who immediately changed the booking to that which we had ordered.
It is noticeable that despite renovations, the carpets are tired, worn and nasty, and the old staff have been replaced by young recruits from China, and this is the same situation in reception. There are a lot of these girls in distinctive red cheongsams hanging around the lobby, grinning, but unable to answer any query. I speak some Mandarin, and their origin was apparent.
We shall not be staying there any more. Regarding breakfast, walk across Orchard Rd to Starbucks, instead of an expensive scrum in the hotel.
