Savoy Hotel - Timisoara, Romania     

We just spent a month living in the Hotel Savoy and, being away from home, it wasn't a bad substitute. The hotel was recently renovated so it's virtually brand new and the style is supposedly that of 1930's art deco. The decor throughout is mainly wood but the main lobby and bar area has leather couches and marble floors. Our room wasn't standard: it's the only one like it in that hotel (I suppose it was assigned to us because of the length of our stay). Apart from having a queen-sized bed, we also had a sitting area, which we accessed with a couple of stairs. The view from said sitting area wasn't the best (it was of the apartment building next door), but if we looked to the front, we were able to see the main cathedral in the centre of town (which is gorgeous when it's lit up at night), as well as the park and the canal that runs through the town centre. The room came with the standard amenities: mini bar, safe, bathrobes, towels (hand, face and bath), bedroom slippers, hair dryer, drinking glasses and opener, hangers, shoe cleaner and brush, cable tv (with some English channels and movies), cable internet, telephone. There was an additional telephone in the bathroom. Also, there were speakers in the bathroom for the tv so while showering, you could listen to news (they had CNN in English) or music (MTV, etc). The hotel offered conference services (they have a LOT of conferences), a sauna and a gym, and there was a parking garage in case you rented a vehicle or were coming in from another part of Europe by car. There was a wireless service, which was supposed to be available only in their lobby area but I was able to pick it up off and on in our room during our stay, so their signal isn't bad. Their service was friendly and generally very good in all aspects. The laundry was always done promptly (they returned it the day after, since ours tended to be voluminous) and the service in the restaurant was efficient (waiters were ready to re-fill our glasses as soon as they were empty) and helpful (since we were eating a lot of strange meals and for the first time, we needed to know what was in them). Housekeeping was always considerate and cheerful when I met them (not to mention that they kept the room almost pristine) There are a few other things to note, however: 1) Smoking is allowed in the building (but not at breakfast) so anyone with allergies, be aware. 2) The shower leaks when you take a bath and can leave a puddle outside. 3) The hotel is located on a main street in Timisoara so at night, even with windows closed, you may hear street noises (sirens, a loud car, etc). Sometimes, as well, you can hear people talking in the hall, next door and even in the room above you. 4) Lunch and dinner menus are the same. I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel while in Timisoara. Apart from the overall good experience in the hotel itself, the hotel is in a good location: you have great views and you're a short walk away from the city centre so, essentially, you're in the hub of things.

Hotel Savoy is an extremly stylish hotel located in the heart of Timisoara's center. I am from Timisoara and I had a family coming from Finland to stay here. They are very demanding so I chose to book them a room at Hotel Savoy. They were very pleased with both hotel services and the ambience of the hotel. It was a very pleasant and satisfactory stay. The staff was very prompt and kind in offering their services and help when required or from their own initiative. They loved the 30's themed ambience which enchanted my eye. I strongly recommend this hotel to both regular tourists and business men during their stay in Timisoara. Being in the city center, not only you get an excellent view of the historical buildings and surrounding parks, but also you are very close to all key places in Timisoara. Rates are satisfactory regarding the professional services offered.
