Hotel Paradis - Cluj-Napoca, Romania     

While on a trip through Romania, my husband and I stayed in Cluj at the Hotel Paradis. We found the check-in staff to be friendly and helpful. The room was clean and pleasant. I read a review of someone that had a problem with humidity in the room. We didn't have that. We DID however, have a problem with the AC. May, in Romania this year was very hot.- in the 90's F. We checked in, dropped our luggage and went out immediately to look for a restaurant. At the time we were in Cluj, EVERYTHING in town was under renovation or construction. Eventually, we gave up looking in town and went back to the hotel because that seemed to be the only place open and serving dinner. I have to say, we had an excellent dinner there. One of the best steak fiorentinas I have ever had. We returned to our room and settled in. It was hot. We looked for the remote for the AC and discovered that there was not one - even though there was an AC in the room. We called to the desk and asked to have the remote sent up. They said they would. We waited about half an hour but no one came. My husband went downstairs to the desk and they seemed surprised that we had not forgotten. They made a feeble effort to look for a remote then finally someone said that it was too early for AC and they couldn't give us the remote - they were locked in the manager's office. Whatever the truth is, the bottom line is that WE did not have AC that night. It was very hot and uncomfortable. Why do the hotels think they need to police the use of the AC of the guests? If I want to sleep in an igloo, that's my business, not the business of the hotel. If it is hot in May then give the )*&^% guests AC! Cheez! OK, enough on that for this hotel but don't miss the follow-up on no AC in hotels in Danube Delta. The location of the hotel was fine. We felt that we could walk to every major construction site in town! If we went back to Cluj - and why would we - I guess it would have to be in the dead of winter so that we could be guaranteed cold weather and hopefully heat. Then, yes, I guess I would l stay at this hotel again.
