Stayed at the Birger Jarl for 4 nights in Mid-July for our anniversary. The hotel website suggesting that it's a "design"-hotel with individually designed rooms by Swedish designers is a bit misleading: there are some, but the majority is rather basic, but ok. Rooms are tiny but comfy, though the bathrooms are VERY small and showing signs of wear. Rooms were generally clean. Stayed at 5th floor, would recommend the higher floors (5&6).
Couples be aware: it's two king size beds combined - and they are sliding...
Breakfast: great selection of stuff, although the ground floor breakfast room was always very crowded and hectic in the morning; staff had a hard time cleaning all those tables and colleting the masses of empty plates.
Tip: Try the separate breakfast room in the basement - much quiter and the same selection.
Breakfast is served till 11 at weekends which is nice.
Hotel staff ist the plus of the place: always friendly & helpful, making reservations or printing out menus from the internet.
Hotel is a bit in an off-ocation but ok, a mere 20 minutes walk to downtown.
Lots of tourists (Germans, Italians, Americans, Spanish but also Swedish).
Be aware that Stokholm is dead in Mid-July; every local seems to be on vacation and almost all better restaurants and many sops are CLOSED!
Nice hangout-place nearby the hotel is MOND?N, a stylish bar which also serves food.
