Apparthotel Am Schlossberg - Bad Schandau, Germany 

Centered in the spa town of Bad Schandau the relaxed and welcoming managment style of this apartment hotel will both invite,calm and chill you out for your stay. Hotel is equipped with bar,restaurant,underground car park,free admission tickets to the museum next door(one could do worse) and small swimming pool. Staff are pleasant and friendly,rooms are spotless and tourist information abounds at reception. This apartment style hotel very much speaks for itself,a well run,well oiled machine. A lack of air con in the rooms and heating in the small swimming pool may stop it short of a genuine five star experience but this is definately four star plus accomodation. Price wise,not out of order either. Go on,relax here,it's what Bad Schandau is all about and look forward to the day when you can zimmerframe about here in the balmy local weather and discover what nature harmony and balance is all about.

We stopped overnight at the Apparthotel Am Schlossberg to break the journey between Prague and Dresden, travelling between Decin and Dresden by boat. It was a largely blind choice - since (as you will have discovered if you get to here), there is relatively little detailed information on accommodation in Sächsichsischen Schweiz. The blind choice proved to be an excellent one : the apartment, easy to find, was a pristine example of tasteful, minimalist/modern decor. The entrance hall led to a good-sized, tiled bathroom/WC, opposite the comfortable double-bedroom. At the end of the hall, a glass door led into a combined kitchen/dining/lounge area - again quite spacious. Reception staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, and a good breakfast is served in the restaurant adjoining the hotel. All at what we considered to be very good value for money, based on comparisons with a range of accommodation between Salzburg and Dresden. Around Bad Schandau, be prepared to work harder with your German more than in the large cities - it is a holiday area less frequented by English-speaking visitors than better known destinations (that said, the grasp of English anywhere tends to put we English-speakers to shame)
