We stayed in Mercure hotel for just one night with my wife. It is a decent place (business like) with very standad rooms. We asked for a non-smoking room at booking but we did not get one (they have just floor no. 4 reserved for such rooms), so be careful when arranging accommodation.
They staff was nice, breakfast very good but the best part of the hotel is definitely it's location. Near the centre, shopping district, ... you can quickly get to the city or use a taxi for just a couple of Eur to get around. For Porto (where you do no spent much time in the room) this is a good price/performance location.
