2.8We chose this because the Time Out Lisbon guide claimed it was "quiet", despite the nearby area being "noisy and seedy", and requested a quiet room when we booked. However, our first night was spent in a first-floor room next to the funicular (Elevador da Gloria), which screeched its way down its rails until midnight, and from 06:30. Our window didn't close properly, so little sleep was had. Also, the room was so small that we could barely open the wardrobe next to the bed, and the whole thing was a bit grotty.
When we asked the next day, the staff were very helpful, telling us to pack up our cases and they'd move them for us during the day, which they did. The new room was the furthest from the funicular, at the back, and two floors up ... but still noisy, with air-con pipes outside the window all night, noisy guests nearby and very thin walls :-( So after that we moved to the 3-star Lisbon Tejo (which I can't find on this site), on the advice of the Tourist Office -- €30/night more but well worth it, and a lovely place.
Also, the Internet access wasn't working, and the TV in the lounge showed a pink image (only red and blue beams working, I think). We didn't try the breakfast. Oh and, as well as the funicular, there's a sex shop / strip club just round the corner!
So, overall, if you're looking for something cheap with helpful service, and are a heavy sleeper (or plan to be out very late anyway :-), then it's worth a look given the price. Otherwise, find somewhere more comfy, I'd say.
