Main attractions

Lisbon can best be seen by strolling through the typical neighbourhoods of Alfama or Bairro Alto, hopping on board a tram, taking a boat along the river, or even by using Lisbon's underground, with its decorative stations, many of which are true works of art by well-known Portuguese artists.

Apart from the vast choice of museums throughout the city, a visit to Belém - west of the city - is an absolute must, with its gardens, the Torre de Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery, both classified by UNESCO as world heritage. Next door, the modern Centro Cultural de Belém, the 18th century Coach Museum and the never-to-be-forgotten local pastries, the Pastéis de Belém.

East of the city, the brand new Parque das Nações (ex-Expo'98) with a variety of leisure attractions, including the Oceanarium, widely considered to be one of the best in the world.

PANORAMA LISBON
See Lisbon from a new perspective. Visit the city's impressive monumental area and travel in Portugal's most modern form of transport.
Come aboard our most recent tour, in a luxurious coach, which goes from the city centre (Parque Eduardo VII) to the ancient area of Belém (where you will visit the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Torre de Belém, Monumento dos Descobrimentos and the Coches Museum.
You will then be driven to a downtown train station, to take a modern, double-decker train with air-conditioned carriages, complete with background music. Crossing the River Tagus, Lisbon is magnificently laid out at your feet. On your way back, your tour ends at Entrecampos station. (Return trip to the hotel is not included).

CHARMS OF LISBON
A half day tour, to visit the Oceanarium, both bridges spanning the River Tagus and the monumental area of Belém. Departure to the Parque das Nações (former Expo'98), to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium, where five main habitats have been recreated - large, central tank, representing the open seas, and four coastal habitats, the rocky North Atlantic coast, the sandy Atlantic coasts, the temperate Pacific, and the tropical Indian coral habitat.
Altogether, more than 30 tanks make up the Oceanarium, which contains over 7,000m3 of saltwater. The habitats and their fauna and flora were carefully reproduced, respecting geological and climatic factors and even the local sounds and music.
After visiting the Oceanarium, our tour will take you along the Vasco da Gama bridge, with its breathtaking view of the Tagus riverbanks and the Parque das Nações.
Back to Lisbon, via the 25 de Abril bridge, from with the city's riverbanks spread out at your feet and the towering Cristo Rei (Christ the King) monument.
You will arrive at the monumental area of Belém, an example of true Manueline art, with its two masterpieces: the Jerónimos monastery and the Torre de Belém. Our panoramic tour ends with a visit of the commemorative Padrão dos Descobrimentos.

We had a short stay in Lisbon, a city we hadn't been to before, and I chose this hotel because of the family friendly references made in other reviews on this website and was not let down at all. We arrived in Lisbon on train at the Oriente station and the hotel was literally on our door stop. The staff at the hotel were welcoming and the room was pleasant. Breakfast was lovely and my son especially enjoyed using the hotel's spa faciliities. The area in front of the hotel was pleasant; nice shops and restaurants and a lovely water front. The Oceanarium was very good. We spent a day touring Lisbon which was easy from this location and the staff at The Oriente Railway station were helpful giving us advice on transport options. We ended up buying a ticket for 4 Euros each which allowed us to use trains, trams, buses and elevators for the whole day! I think we had the best of both worlds on this trip, staying in a nice, safe, pleasant location and yet within easy access to an interesting city.
