I'm a critical sort of hotel patron but can't get as angry about the Best Western as others have. I was perfectly happy with my small, ordinary room with its small ordinary bathroom. It wasn't particularly noisy (apart from seagulls, which I imagine every hotel in Bath has to contend with) and I didn't notice any dirt problems. The TV didn't have all the freeview channels but I'm not fussed much by that.
Staff were friendly-ish but the idea in hotels like this is that no-one is there out of love for the place and so you just get on with what you're given. I was quite surprised that at 10.45pm on a Friday night the bar had already shut but I guess there are better places to go 2 minutes down the road.
I would say that breakfast was very poor. For ?80 a night I expect fresh tea and coffee, not crap from an urn or an automatic coffee maker. All the cereals are in packets - very chavvy, think rice krispies rather than muesli. And my cooked breakfast was almost inedible: the "grilled" tomato had been popped in a frying pan for about 10 seconds, my fried egg was dripping with oil (I would have preferred poached but no-one asked me how I wanted it) and the sausage was gross.
The typical British hotel experience, perhaps!

I was in a group of 6 adults (3 female and 3 male) and 1 child in Bath to film a documentary. We had 3 rooms booked. Myself and another lady checked in several hours ahead of the others and we were told we had one double room and two rooms with a double and single, which was satisfactory for our numbers. We could only have one room on our arrival, as the other two rooms were in different names.
However when the others arrived, they only had one double room and the other had a double and single bed. They had obviously given our previously allocated room to someone else, so we had much debating on who was going to use the double beds. Lucky we were all flexible and didn't mind bunking up this time.
.
There was a vast difference in the 3 rooms. One double was a small double bed (which was very hard) in a small room, the other double room had a queen bed, which was quite comfortable and the room was much larger. The room with a queen bed and single bed and sofa bed was very large, although the beds were not comfortable. The sofa bed which we used was terrible.
We were there for 2 nights, and when we returned for the second night, one of the rooms had not been cleaned.
Breakfast was included in the tariff and was adequate, but nothing special.
The position of the hotel was great, right in the middle of Bath. Maybe they use their position as a reason not to have their hotel and staff up to scratch. It is in much need of some TLC and maintenance
I can't see how this is a 3 star hotel.
