Residencial Riviera - Evora, Portugal 

The great advantage of this hotel is the location: two steps away from the DIANA temple and the GIRALDO SQUARE, right in the center of EVORA. It is located in an old building, very well taken care of. The rooms are very simple, with nothing special, and my bathroom was some kind of small (only a shower, not even a full bath). However, everything was very clean and recent, and it had some charm. In the negative side, the rooms were not very well isolated, not from the street, but from the noises coming from the hotel - you can hear everything that happens in the corridors, like people entering the other rooms, opening and shutting doors. My room was close to the dinning room, so the noises started at 7h30 when people started to come for breakfast.

The declining dollar has sent us to the next tier down in accomodation, and I was uncertain what we would find in a "residencial," remembering sub-par pensiones from student days run by scarry cabbage-sented matrons screaming at their nephews. I was delighted with our room, which was clean, quiet, and had resonable sheets and towels, as well as a safe and minibar. I was very happy with the location of the hotel, and the breakfast. A very positive experience from smooth email booking, to reserving the parking place. I was glad not to have wasted money on the Pousada in town and instead ate some wonderful meals. The two quirks were the need to carry a heavy bag up many stairs and difficulties finding the parking, but they were all part of the adventure. I would recommend this without hesitation.
