The management of Le Méridien Penina Golf & Resort is proud to inform that as of 15 October 2007, the hotel will initiate a refurbishment program, foreseen to be finished by the end of April 2008. All efforts and measures have been taken into consideration in order to minimise possible disturbance during client stays. At the Penguin Village, children are sure to have a memorable time at this fully supervised and specialised facility, which offers weekly programmes with games, sports coaching and lessons tailored to different age groups. Children aged 3 to 12 years are offered free entrance to the Penguin Village, whilst a local fee is charged for children aged 6 months to 2 years.

During the summer months (June to September), clients have free access to the Hotel's Beach Club, at Alvor Beach, having the right to free use of beach towels, sunbeds and sunshades.

From June to September the hotel has a free shuttle bus that transports clients to and from Alvor beach.

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel with a 7 and 3 year old. Overall this hotel ticks most boxes and proved to be a good choice and great holiday. Biggest plusses are the Golf course on your doorstep - great quality and test for all levels (best suited fror the 5 - 25 handicap range), well run penguin club for the kids, super sized swimming pool (27C at end June), own part of beach at Alvor a few mins away and the general friendliness of the staff. The food is good (kids adore the buffet) but if you are fussy a little samey. The recently refurbished rooms for us were good - connecting rooms for a family of 4 a must as they are not the biggest and not much drawer / hanging space but soon got over it. A couple of watchouts is going sligtly out of season resullted in the hotel being pretty quiet with few other kids. However the scots and Irish schools broke up and it was filling up when we left. Generally an older clientele than our previous visit aprt form a stag group that turned and shook the place and the oldies from their sun beds. Finally the one biggest gripe is the price of soft drinks. Extortionate. Tip, clear out the mini bar and go to the local supermarket!

Just back from 10 day visit and I have never had such excellent service in such splendid surroundings-I defy any golfer not to enjoy this hotel and resort. The hotel staff couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable-from room to golf shop, front desk and pool attendants-everyone excelled. The Resort and Championship courses are fantastic to play in the warm sunshine -sure beats cold, damp uk. I will definitely return again and again.
