Clube praia da Oura, July 2008 Posted: Wed, Jul 23 2008 We have just spent two weeks at Clube Praia da Oura. Had a great time, the complex is spotless, the public bathrooms were always clean even the pool toilets were spot on which is unusual.
We had a studio which being honest was small, the kitchen was fully equipped, with cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and every kitchen implement you would need. The first week we were there we found it difficult to get a sun bed if you went down after 9am, there were loads of towels on them and people weren't coming down until lunch time, this was quite frustrating. After a few day's the place seemed quieter and sun beds easier to get. The bar's weren't much dearer than those on the strip if you drank the local beer, however if you want a beer that's not as gassy head for Reno's on the strip 4euro for a pint of Carling. Meal's can be a bit expensive but if you look of the strip you can get fresh fish or a steak for about 8euro. Had a crap microwaved Sunday lunch at a place called Mary Ann's, just off the strip don't bother even trying it.
All in all had good time local buses easy to use and frequent and some lovely walks on the cliff's.
Arrived back 1 week ago. We were really pleased with these apartments as they were really nice and in a great location, they are spotless clean as the maid service is every other day (clean towels), the beach is really close with plenty of sunbeds. There is a supermarket on the grounds but a much bigger one at the Oura Praia just up the road.
The 'STRIP' is about a 5 minute walk away and is very lively, there are a few bars by the beach and some on the hill up to the 'STRIP'.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and we even had a visit from one of the managers to check if we were satisfied with the apartments. The only downside to these apartments is no air con, but they do provide you with an extra fan.
We stayed at the Clube Praia da Oura (CPO) in April 2008.
When we arrived we were a bit disappointed that our room was not ready and had to wait 2 hours as it was yet to be cleaned. We had a walk around the complex and up cardiac hill!! That was the 1st and only time we walked up that monster!! We had a bite to eat and walked the strip. Beware of people trying to get you to complete questionnaires and say you can win a prize if you put your hand in the envelope or offer scratchcards. They are either time share or trying to sell you trips. They get quite cheeky when you refuse!
We then headed back to CPO to be told that are room was still not ready but if we wanted a studio they were available! We had paid for a one bedroom apartment and thats what we wanted so reluctantly we said we would wait another 2 hours!!! We went and sat a the pool bar and had a few drinks whilst reading magazines/books to ease the wait.
Finally we got the key to the apartment (4hrs later) in block C and were not disappointed with the size or cleanliness of the room. It could have done with a lick of paint and some of the plug sockets did not work but that did not bother us. It had sofa and coffee table, sideboard with TV on it showing some sky channels, a table with 4 chairs and the best equipped kitchen I have ever seen for a self catering holiday! Lots of wardrobe and drawer space, large bathroom and excellent sized bedroom. Only thing was that the window in your bedroom is tiny and there is no ceiling light!! Not good when trying to do your make up at the dresser!!
We had an excellent view over the pool and the complex is kept to a really high standard. The walk ways were brushed and mopped daily and our room was cleaned 4 times in the week we were there. Fresh towels left every day and also fresh tea towels!! There were spectacular blooms all around the complex and the mature gardens are very well kept! The hot tubs were cleaned twice when we were there also! Very Hygienic!! Toilets by pool also very clean. We did not eat at the hotel as the strip is only a short walk away! If you come to the pool by block c and go up those steps, there is a walkway that will bring you out onto a main road beside a bus stop. If you cross over and go left after about 3 mins you reach the bottom of the strip and you don't have to tackle that hill!!!
All in all we had an excellent time at CPO and will definitely go back and stay there again!
