We have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Alisios Hotel.
It is definately set in a fantastic location with wonderful beaches and coves all around! It really looks like all the photos.(It will be even better when the new paved area into the Old Town is finished - this should be soon!)
Other bigger and perhaps more family orientated hotels are set away from the beaches.
As has been mentioned the hotel is well kept and clean with professional staff ,especially on reception. They seem to be able to speak every European language with ease!
Rooms are fairly small but well appointed- we had a garden -view room which also faced other rooms, and the indoor pool ,but this was not a problem! We also noticed that some 'sea-view' rooms did overlook the sun terrace and restaurant area ,which could be a disappointment to some!
Breakfasts were really good with an excellent choice but don't really offer English style full breakfasts ,if that's what you're looking for! We only had one lunch on terrace, which was really good-, but ,granted, was only a salad! Restaurants nearby are good and, as has been stated ,it is best to choose smaller typical Portuguese ones, in side streets ,before going right down into the Old Town. Alfredos is recommended!
To finish, I would recommend this hotel for a really great relaxing holiday.
location location location Posted: Tue, Jul 08 2008 I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Alisos with my wife ,daughter, son inlaw & 7month old grandson & I must admit it is a very good hotel.
As in previous reviews the hotel is very clean & the rooms are of a quality standard & the maid service is 2nd to none.
The thing for this hotel is that you are 2 minutes from a sandy beach & a 15 min walk into the old town.
We did eat in the hotel one night but found it a little expensive & the sun deck drinks are also a little over the top compaired to other places.
Whilst we were there they were building a new walkway that will take you from the hotel straight into the old town along the cliff face - it should be completed in about 4 weeks
Overall this is a very good hotel & the staff are ok - we had no problems.
When going into old town choose the resturants behind the main square - they are better quality & are cheaper & are used mainly by the locals.
The Aruna resturant in fishermans wharf which is set into the cliff is most disappointing - you have to get up from your table & order you own meals & is way over priced - you are paying for the views.
Hotel was spotless, staff friendly and helpful,"Joao" and "Americo" and room cleaning staff brilliant. Breakfast was continental but plentiful,10 min walk to Old Town 15 min to strip.Beach was beautiful sea was cold.We preferred walking to Old Town along beach . Food was alright in Cafes in Square, nice Indian restaurant behind Square "Tandoori Nights"Overall found Portugal and its people nice and friendly.
