4My husband and I plus our 16 year old daughter have just returned from a lovely week spent at the Baia Grande. First holiday to Portugal and thought Albufeira might be too busy with hen/stag parties so purposely picked a hotel out of town, tho had thought there might be a little more going on around the hotel... there are a couple of restaurants - Dim Diniz ok but food not that great, O'Marinheiro was a bit pricier but food excellent.
Stayed B&B and agree with other reviews that the hot breakfast was average - same daily offering of streaky bacon, scrambled egg and sausages. Coffee, from a machine, was heinous, and fruit was tinned... but there was plenty to eat, and the restaurant was nice and clean. Pool bar food was fine - sandwiches/burgers/chips etc, tho drinks pricey - but there's a minibar in the room which you can use as a fridge for your own water etc. Rooms have a safe, 2E/day. Pool is lovely, well laid out.
Shuttle bus runs to Gale beach, also to old town, tho last one goes at 18.45 so taxi back (about 7E).
Pool towels are available (10E deposit) but 'are not for beach use' , but you'd get away with it, if you're running out of suitcase space!
Rooms are a good size, again nice and clean. We had a lovely view of the pool and ocean, tho if you want sun on yr balcony in the morning you'll have to ring the hotel and insist on a room on the same 'wing' as the kids' pool, as ours was in shade, even tho I'd rung up and asked for a sunny room! Disappointed to discover no tea/coffee tray in the room, so not quite sure how this was rated a 4* hotel.
This all sounds a bit moany but wasn't meant to as on the whole we had a wonderful week, if we went again we'd get a hire car to vary the nightlife and to see a bit more of the area, which is beautiful.
