Best Western Estalagem Dom Goncalo - Fatima, Portugal 

While this is not the closest Hotel to the Basilica it was a nice place to stay. The staff was soooo helpful and spoke english. I was traveling with friends who were born in Portugal but they went further north and left me in Fatima. I met up with them 3 days later. I asked the gentlman at the desk for a bus schedule and he went on line and found many options for the various places where my friends could pick me up. He also showed me the way to the bus station. Did I mention how NICE and HELPFUL they were which is great especially if you are traveling alone. They supplied maps and coupon and had suggestions for what not to miss. They have airconditioning!! While you have to ask them to turn it on for you just ask and you'll have artic freeze in no time. Which was great since it was sooo hot during the day. The restaurant in the hotel was good and supplied a menu in English. While other restuarants did that too....some did not and of course one night I pick one that did not. My high school spanish and the very nice people at the next table who spoke a little bit of english got me through. The Hotel supplies a continental breakfast in the morning which is OK. Coffee is good and there is plenty of it. I was there when it was very hot....advice....do the museum and other things during the hotest part of the day (not too crowded or unbarable) and go the the square in the evning or morning hours....it is when it is more peaceful anyway. Fatima has an energy all its own and whether you are Spiritual or not this should not be missed.

Clean, comfortable. As usual, great breakfast (uniformly delicious everywhere we went in Portugal). The staff were hand picked for being personable, well spoken and informative. They are very helpful when you are visiting Fatima as a Catholic making a pilgrimage to the shrine. We will certainly go again.
