4The hotel itself is in a good location, only 2 minutes from the Jewish quarter where there are good restaurants and bars and only a 10-15 minute walk, or tram journey to the old town. The hotel room that we had was clean and fairly big with loads of storage space. The bathroom was modern and had a good shower. Breakfasts were fairly basic, continental style, with bread, meat and cheeses.
The downside was that there was no air conditioning which meant that we had to sleep with the window open, which meant that it was very noisy. The hotel is on a main road which serves as a busy tram route and directly behind the hotel there is a busy train line. Added to this, behind the hotel there are apartments which are occupied by local residents. Obviously these people are not on holiday and therefore have their own normal lives to lead. One morning we were woken up by a lady washing and brushing the courtyard area at 6.30 am and another morning at 7 am with someone drilling. If you are a light sleeper, then without some seriously good ear plugs this is not the hotel for you!
The girls on reception were generally quite helpful and spoke good English. They have facilities to leave your luggage which was useful as we had a later flight. The hotel also arranged for taxi transfers to and from the airport for us. The cost of which was reasonable, 60 zlotys during the week and 70 zlotys at the weekend.
I did think that the hotel was reasonable value for money, but would probably not stay at this hotel again due to the noise. I would however stay in the Jewish Quarter again. I think you get a good taste of everyday life in Krakow staying here with the advantage of only being a short walk from the city centre.
Krakow is a beautiful city and I would recommend anyone to go there. I felt very safe the whole time that we were there. We went on day trips to both the salt mines and Auschwitz/Birkenhau. If you go to the salt mines, I would suggest that you buy your ticket from the tourist office before you go (63 zlotys) to avoid horrendously long queues when you get there. Our tour guide said that sometimes in the summer you have to queue for an hour and a half. There is a local bus (5 zlotys return) which leaves from the corner of Starowisina and Westerplatte. The Wawel area of the city is beautiful and also well worth a visit.
