"great hotel in a great city"

Yes, there are 'tired' bits of the Grand, but it is an old hotel which adds to its charm. However my wife and I loved it. We had got the grandparents to look after the children for a few days, booked an easyjet flight and used their hotel booking service to arrange the hotel. The on-line price was cheap for such a central location, but I thought I would see if I could do a deal with the hotel on arrival for an upgrade. The staff were great and showed us available rooms and we eventually settled on a suite with a huge sitting room with some big wooden doors partioning off the sleeping area. The room felt more like a home from home than rather some clinical chain hotel. There was even a bookcase with interesting books in a multitude of languages. The bathroom was down a small corridor but unfortunately the spa function of the bath was too noisy to use late at night. We thought the breakfast was good and quite imaginative. The staff were all helpfull. And as they say 'Location, Location, Location!'

The Grand Hotel is above average, but a mixed lot. The Grand Hotel is in an excellent location, about one block away from the main city square. The staff is sparse, but very nice. We stayed in room #68 which faces the back of the hotel. The room was small, fits two twin size beds and a desk. The bathroom has a full tube and is nicely tiled with marble. Free internet is available (they supply you with a cable, so now WIFI). Otherwise the furniture and 18" TV were old. A decent morning breakfast consisting of cold cuts, scrambled eggs, cheeses, fruits, etc is free. We got a grea rate for the room, $150/night. Overall the hotel is outdated and in need of a serious renovation. The room we stayed in was too small and needed an update. The fitness/sauna is a joke and you have to pay for it. The hotel doesn't provide many luxurious amenities befitting a 5* hotel. I would stay here again for the location if the price remained the same.
