We stayed in this hotel whilst attending a wedding in Groningen and we had an AWFUL experience! On the outside it looked fine, but boy were we in for a shock. Our room was tiny, no room to swing a cat, very shabby. It was also located opposite the elevators and stairs, so lots of movement continually. The main issue was that on returning from a meal and thinking of a good sleep ready for the wedding the next day we were confronted with a large group of dutch football supporters. They never let up the entire night, shouting, singing, banging doors, banging on our door, screaming, the noise was unbelievable. The worst of it was that the hotel did nothing to stop any of this totally unacceptable behaviour. At about 3am I had had enough and opened the door to find them sprawled all over the place, lying in the corridors an the place stunk of alcohol, many of them were still drinking. I went down to reception and asked what was going to be done, all I got was a shrug! By 8:30am and no sleep we got up and went to breakfast to be confronted again by the same group who were now also eating, the noise in the breakfast room was terrible and when they started to throw eggs across the room at each other we got up and said enough was enough. We again approached reception who this time apologised and offered us a pathetic 10% off the bill. We were so annoyed that these unruly individuals were being allowed to disturb well behaved guests. We packed up then and there and walked. We walked around Groningen until we found another hotel, the then Best Western who were fantastic and we got 2 brilliant nights sleep. This happened about 3 years ago but we are still so annoyed at the hotel for doing nothing about an extreme situation. Hence I am writing this now! I have never come across anything quite like it and hopefully never will again. How management can allow 'guests' to behave in such a manner, knowing that that the whole hotel is being kept awake is beyond me! Tip for the hotel, its the good well behaved guests you want to keep happy not the badly behaved ones. I would never recommend this hotel, the treatment of its guests was appalling. There are plenty of other hotels in this fab city who have professional staff and ones that would not tolerate this type of behaviour. Stay at those, not the Martini.
