Everybody knows Egmond aan Zee for its beautiful sandy beach, which offers a number of facilities like beach pavilions and sailing / surfing facilities. The broad beach offers direct access to the cosy centre of the town. Here you can find nice outdoor cafés, restaurants, bars and shops. Apart from the mini golf and the tennis courts, Egmond aan Zee also offers a modern sport centre and a subtropical pool with sauna, Turkish bath, solarium and different slides.The city of Alkmaar is close to Egmond. Alkmaar is a regional centre, with a bustling old town (more than 400 monuments), outdoor cafés, restaurants, shops, warehouses, cinemas, museums and a theatre.
Alkmaar is famous all over the world because of its weekly cheese market (only during the summer) and it has a cheese museum.
A bit more to the south, you can find the 'Beverwijkse Bazaar' in the town of Beverwijk. It is Europe's largest indoor market, open every weekend, with over 3.000 stands and booths, divided into various sections, each dedicated to a specific culture or theme. You can find an antique market, a 'black market', a 'grand bazar', a computer market and a huge eastern market.
