Howard Johnson Maingate East - Kissimmee, USA 

Stayed for 5 nights in February 08. We were surprised at how nice the room was-except for the carpet which needed a good cleaning, and the shower which had been attended to by an overzealous caulker (we're talking globs of caulk). The room contained a hairdryer, safe, iron and ironing board in addition to the usual items. The tv had a large selection of cable channels. There were no bugs in the room. The grounds were well kept and the sight of blooming flowers in February did the soul good. The pool area was nice. Noise was not an issue. We did not use the shuttle service. It took us about 7-9 minutes to drive to the Magic Kingdom. The location is great with plenty of fast food facilities, dine-in restaurants, and convenience type stores all within walking distance. All in all if you need a decent place to stay and don't mind keeping your socks on this place is good choice. I purchased this room through a package deal from Priceline and the room cost was approximately $28/night (including taxes). We had a very enjoyable stay and would stay here again.

You know, these things are all based on expectations. If you are of a certain class and except the Hilton, you are probably going to be disappointed and think this is beneath you. I grew up in a Motel 6 kind of family, which I'll take over a family who doesn't get to enjoy vacations at all. I now have a blended family of 7....my husband's 2 kids, my 2 kids from my first marriage, and my husband and my only child together. We aren't the Rockefellers....we couldn't even afford to stay on Disney property. Did we have a terrible, disgusting stay here at the HoJo? Absolutely not. In fact, I think I would stay here again even if I had more options financially. I really loved the location. There are a lot of restaurants and things around, even a grocery store nearby. I think being on Disney Property would limit you a lot more. We had 2 rooms, and each one offered 2 clean and comfortable beds, a/c, and clean bathroom facitlities. What more do you need. The first day of our stay, the pool was closed because someone had an accident in it. Yeah, it sucked the kids couldn't use it. On the other hand..aren't you glad they close and clean it if there is an accident in it?? When we did get in it the next day, it was heavenly. The water was just perfect. There is also a hot tub and a kiddie pool How nice to be able to let the 18 month old loose in the kiddie pool! Some things to know...as another reviewed mentioned, there is no continental breakfast because there is an IHOP next door, where kids eat free. Just beyond that is a Golden Corral, where we enjoyed a dinner. There is no free shuttle to Disney...it cost $10. This wasn't a problem for us since we had our own vehicle. And the drive to Disney is short and easy. We had a problem with our room keys not working, and the staff made sure this was taken care of. There is a "resort" tax" of 2.50 per room, per night, that wasn't included in what I pre-paid when I booked. That annoyed me a little, but, now I know for next time. Those who were so "disgusted" with this hotel probably are accostomed to more fancy accomodations. If you just want a cheap, decent place to stay, you can't go wrong with this hotel.
