After reading the reviews posted here, we were a bit nervous about having already reserved at the City Inn. We quickly realized that it was not that bad. Particularly with respect to location; while anything east of Jozsef Korut is definitely not as touristy, it is not the "death trap" that other reviewers let on... And it is 2 minute walk from a subway station and the most important tram in the city. So the location is not that bad.
The neighbourhood is gradually being transformed, so there was a lot of construction going on around the hotel. However, we had a room facing the back, so it was very quiet.
The people at reception were nice and helpful.
The best about the hotel was the rooms. Big, spacious, recently renovated, and extremely clean. We were pleasantly surprised.
The breakfast was just OK. You have your basics; scarmbled eggs, yogourt, fruit, cereal, cheese,... Not bad, but nothing extrordinary either.
Overall, not a bad stay.

Originally we had booked the Tulip Millenium Hotel only to find once we arrived there that they had overbooked and sent us off to the City Inn Hotel.
Arriving at the City Inn at 22.00 hours after travelling all day I must admit it is not a pretty site. THe area around is nothing but a building site - walking across the street into reception was enough to make your shoes very muddy. And I would not walk around the area either. Finding the hotel was hard enough, trying to negotiate the one way side streets, but there was no way I was going to stop the car and ask directions - quite intimidating.
No food available when we arrived: no restaurant for evening meals: breakfast was very poor - unedible cereals, hot food (strange chopped sausage concoction, rubbery scrambled eggs and their version of eggy fried bread) looked and tasted horrible, etc, etc.:
In fairness to the hotel it offers basic 3 star city accomodation. Room was OK but do not expect a nice view from the balcony (unless you like looking at car parks or the back of a block of flats). Reception/bar staff very nice and friendly and helpful. Bar area basic but always open - you would not want to spend an evening in there though.
Would not chose to stay there again.
