Hotel de la Vendee - La Roche-sur-Yon, France 

We needed to stay near La Roche as we were due to pick up our holiday accommodation early the next day. This place was excellent. The hotel is right in the centre of the town, is stylish and modern yet not expensive (we paid 66 euros per night). The rooms we had were spacious, airy, had good views across the town, had decent sized bathroom, very comfortable king sized bed, a cot was provided free of charge for our little one, and the reception were friendly, helpful and helped us find a good restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was good (8 euros, perhaps a little steep, but it was fresh and breakfasts always seem on the dear side in Europe given they are cold) and plentiful. The whole place was clean. I guess the only down side is that there is no free parking and so you have to put money in a meter between 9am and 7pm during the week and on Saturdays, though it was inexpensive and this didn't really bother us given our short stay there. The meter can provide you with a ticket for a free 15 minutes anyway while you check in, and then rates were perfectly reasonable to have the car so close by. The centre of the town is worth an evening stroll too. A good find.
