Hotel Washington - Amsterdam, Netherlands     

Considering the price I was paying I was not expecting much - but was very pleasantly surprised. I found the staff friendly and helpful, and was prepared to pay on check in as it clearly stated that on the parerwork. Confortable, warm, room. Clean and tidy, Clean bathroom and shower. Considering its position and the rates it charges (I have paid over 3 times as much for worse in Amsterdam) I would rate it as good value. I also had some issues with a lost wallet (nothing to do with hotel) that they were very helpful with (not one for a honeymoon though!)

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that the entire room tarif had to be paid in advance in cash, or if we used our credit card, an additional credit card fee would be applied to the tarif. Neither of these policies had been mentioned in any of our correspondence or reservations. We were tired from traveling that day, and did not feel like looking for another hotel, or arguing the issue, so we paid the extra fee. The hotel clerk on duty at that time was also the least helpful and friendly of the three clerks that we encountered there. We made the best of the situation, but our overall experience at this hotel was tainted by this misrepresentation. We are aware of the practice by some businesses of charging extra when credit cards are used, but would prefer to be informed of this policy in advance. Ditto for the policy of cash in full at time of check-in. Therefore, we cannot recommend this hotel nor would we stay there again.
