Dining

Dorrius, the traditionally Dutch restaurant, offers a variety of delicacies in a 17th century ambience and is a great place to visit for those who would like to become better acquainted with traditional Dutch cookery.

Dishes vary from hot pot to exclusive Zeeland oysters, from the renowned Dorrius cheese soufflé to the genuine, traditional Dutch marrowfat peas. All the dishes are made with the highest quality Dutch produce and are carefully prepared according to original Dorrius recipes.

The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 18:00 to 23:00. It is closed on Sundays.

The Amsterdammer bar and patio is the ideal place for having a cup of coffee, a snack or a drink.

We spent 2 nights here and would say the location is fantastic. 5 minutes walk from Central Station, near to shops and restaurants with a 5 minute walk to Dam Square. The hotel is supposed to be 5 star, but we would say its a 4 star. The rooms we had were very comfy, especially the beds and we asked for non-smoking and thats what we got, although as a previous review said, there was definitely a 'smoking smell' in the corridors. The bathrooms could do with being refurbished, but were clean. The bar / reception area was ok, but we felt the hotel could do with a lounge area with setees etc.(there was one for Club rooms, but they were considerably more expensive rooms). The food was good in the bar and for the breakfasts, although sometimes the 'buffet hot plates' were empty and we had to wait for them to be replenished. We didn't eat in the restaurant. The swimming pool is not very big, but in a capital city centre I suppose to be expected, although we would have spent more time in the 'leisure' area had there been more there. Security was excellent as you needed your room key to access the lifts as well as your room and late at night they ask to see the room key before letting you in. The staff were friendly and all spoke English very well. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel from 30/12/07until 4/01/08. The location is excellent and is a five minute walk from Central Station. We booked a Club Room which entitled us to Continental Breakfast and included free tea, coffee, soft drinks ,beer, wine and snacks to 11pm each day. The room was very comfy and a good size although the bathroom was small. It had all the usual ameneties and was very clean. The Hotel is excellently situated for travellers and there is plenty of shops ,resturants etc nearby. The tram stop is a short distance away and we found this extremely easy to use and inexpensive. A strip ticket costs euro6.80 and will be good for two people for about 4 or 5 runs. All of the staff were very helpful. The Hotel had a leisure centre which included a pool although we got no time to use it, the facilities offered looked good. I would probably book this Hotel as room only again as it is expensive to include the breakfast and there is numerous resturants/cafes acrosss the street offering full english breakfasts for approximately 7 euros. Overall a good experience and I would definately recommend this Hotel and it is one I would return to on a visit again.
