3.2I like the Old South neighborhood of Amsterdam, since it is close to the Vondelpark and walking distance to most of the central attractions, with convenient tram service and a nearby Albert Heijn supermarket, so I always try to stay in that neighborhood. While the staff at the Zandbergen were attentive and helpful, the hotel fell short of my expectations in several respects: 1) the single rooms all face the street, bringing the regular noise of the #2 tram every 10 minutes or so starting at 6 AM; 2) the free WiFi service was very spotty, though that may be the fault of the ISP, not the hotel; 3) the single rooms are *very* small, even by the standards of Amsterdam. My advice for single travelers is to book a double room, which is far more spacious and which faces the hotel's garden, not the street.
