When we arrived on June 12 the Coba and Tulum portions of the resort were closed due to the lack of customers. We had rooms reserved in the Coba section but found that Akumal was closer to the beach so that was a plus. This is a beautifully maintained resort yet the landscape crews were pretty invisible with respect to noise levels. Housekeeping is top notch. Only downer was our airconditioning was not as responsive as we would have liked. We were never uncomfortable just a little warmer than we would have liked. Staff at the resort was incredible, from housekeeping to waiters to bartenders. The front desk lady was kind of put offish more than once when we asked questions. I would highly recommend using the Public Relations people in the lobby to get all of your questions and concerns taken care of they are an awesome resource. Some others have said the beach was rocky but it seemed to be so in specific spots. Had no trouble walking the entire length of the beach barefoot. The beach was very well maintained. The buffet was consistently good with more choices than you could ever make. All the food was very fresh. Best restaurant in the resort is the French Restaurant in the Tulum main lodge area. The others were good but the food, service and atmosphere were out of this world at this location. Definitely a place to go back to. Feel badly for all the people not working because of the swine flu scare.

We've been their twice and are planning to go again. Of the three resorts (you get to use all three ) Coba is the best. Only drawback is the long drive from the airport, 1 1/2 hrs, but then your close to Tulum and the eclo parks.

Do not get Married at the Coba

We were disappointed with a lot of the hotel None of our 28 guests were booked close to use and that we had to search around for their rooms. We also had many problems with the wedding planner not knowing the language and suggesting things to us without us trying them. For example the venue for the reception. We were told a lot of things could not be done but after looking around at all three parts of the resort we found out that anything was possible. The wedding planner forgot a lot of our requests and did what she wanted not what we requested. She kept a lot of the items we had brought for our wedding and didn?t fill our guest favors up and ended up keep a whole box of candy for herself. They also charged us for a certificate that we didn't need to have our marriage We would not recommend any of the Gran Bahia Principe resorts, things go wrong and missing from rooms and the hotel doesn't feel responsible for any of it

Would I go back??

Yes probably. The food was ho hum at the buffet, there was a large selection though, the ala carte's were fabulous! I particularly enjoyed the French food.... Excellent! The rooms were clean and well stocked daily. Our room had mildew in it though, it was a garden view room on the first floor, therefore no sunlight. Requested room transfers were taken care of quickly. The cats performance was very good, the other shows that we attended were ok but too loud, the entertainment outside the buffet and in the upgraded section were very good. The activities pool was a blast, games with entertainment provided. The other pool was nice and quiet, both had swim up bars. The staff was very accommodating, and very friendly. There was a trolley ride that I had an incident with a driver as well, just like the other lady that wrote a review. I didn't report it though. The shopping was good at the resort when you went to the hacienda, good bartering there. In the resort was quite pricey. There are computers for customers free usage Cab rides to the ruin sites and Playa Del Carmen very very reasonable. The prices seem to have dropped since I was there in November, so would I return??? Yes probably
