Good
Great experience at the Riu Cancun

Our group of 5 consisted of three 30 year olds and two 50 year olds. We had a wonderful time. We have been to Cancun 3 times. This was our first time at the Riu Cancun. It was as nice as the other resorts we had visited previously. There was great service from check-in to check-out. The resort was busy, but the staff was able to handle all aspects of our visit in an efficient manner. The 3 pools were very nice and offered a choice of quiet to not-so-quiet. I can't imagine a better view or location. The beach was great. Lots of space, lazy waves that were beautiful, but not so large that made it dangerous for swimming. Shopping -- directly across the street is a shopping mall that offers anything that you could want. We have visited the downtown Cancun shopping areas before and the mall across from the Riu had everything the downtown shopping areas had except the "exciting" bus ride. Prices were as good, if not better, than downtown. The food was really really good. We booked reservations at the Japanese and the Brazilian restaurants. We were please with both. But, we would not go to the Japanese restaruant again - pretty good food, but it was loud, and dark and took a long time to complete the meal. Meat eaters and non-meat eaters - go to the Brazilain restaurant - a great experience. The buffets were very good. A great variety. You can't go wrong at their buffets. Breakfast buffet is absolutely great. Drinks -- just tell them what you want. If your first one is not strong for you, just ask for a double or triple! We would definitely go back to the Riu Cancun. Great value, great service - great resort.

Awesome Resort!!

First off let me say that I am an American of Mexican descent living in Wisconsin. It was so sad to see most of the area so vacant,,20 % capacity at all the resorts. We heard of hundreds of hotel employees throughout Cancun laid off because of what I considered a phony flu scare. The Riu Cancun itself was a great resort. We were there from 5/8--5/13 The food and shows were outstanding. The staff was very polite and attentive. The specialty restaurants were 4-5 star quality. We will seriously look at going again next year.

This hotel is ok! Only ok! but under staff no room service tip expected all the time ? free drinks and food low quality? old food and dirty? we had no air condition in our room it took them 48 hr to fix it! The bathroom light was out all the time due to electrical problems we paid for ocean view on our booking! We got the main floor room pool view which the door was broken!!!!! Our reservation as they said was not on there system and they took the reservation conformation from us!? beautiful beach only!.. Beautiful pools with dirty water!!!!! You don?t have clean bed you have to go get everything from front desk, embracing!!!! No coporation!!! They call it 5 star I call this hotel 2 star!!! We enjoyed the beach and that?s was all. Never go back again.

- Newport News, Va Week of April 6 - 10 2009 Very freindly staff. Went with boyfriend & some other freinds. Checked in right away with no problem even though check in was noted to be 3:00 pm. Arrived at 12:30. Room was very clean, only problem was fan on a/c buzzed and bed was a little hard. Maid service cleaned room daily and restocked any water / soda that was drank from room refrigerator. Also very freindly those times I ran into her while still in the room. Staff was very freindly everywhere we went. Food & drinks were good as well. Only suggestion I have if you plan on eating in one of the 3 resteraunts that require reservation, make them when you get there. We tried the day after we got there (tuesday) and was only able to get into the Japanese resteraunt on thursday nothing else was available all week. All in all we had a very good time considering that it was also spring break week as well. We are all in our 40's and had a great time and plan to go back again next year.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rui Cancun and had a good time. The food was good, but the mixed drinks are not the best. The staff was very nice and helpful. Our room was cleaned every day and we always had clean towels. The hotels location if fairly good. It is across the street from a mall and very close to the local vendor shops. The night clubs are also at a walking distance. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
