Residence and hotel Praga 1 is on a very busy main road which is rather dingy but don't let that put you off. The hotel is very clean and we were given a room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet,it had two big opening windows which was great as it was very hot while we were there. The bathroom was small but clean and the towels were changed every day.The dining room was in the basement but there is a lift down to it so it's not a problem. The breakfast was plentiful with cold meats and cheeses, loads of tea and coffee, different bread rolls, toast and yoghurts,so plenty to set you up for a few hours. None of the staff were very talkative and all you will get is a brief 'Good Morning'. Wencelas Square is very near but we spent all of our time on either side of Charles Bridge so were in the hotel only briefly. It's a nice enough hotel but if we went to Prague again would prefer to stay in the old town.

Praga 1 is clean and is not too far from the Charles Square subway and tram stations, making it fairly easy to get around. You can easily walk to areas in Nove Mesto like Wenceslas Square, and Stare Mesto is walkable, although its a bit of a stroll. Take trams 22/23 to the castle. The hotel is clean and its a decent place to flop if you dont do anything in your room except sleep. I traveled by myself, and only slept there, but I would not want to hang out there. Prague is expensive, so this represeents an acceptable value. Where Praga 1 and many budget hotels suffer is basic service. Changing even moderatly sized bills is a challenge, and they ran out of tram tickets twice in my short stay, which is unacceptable form a tourist hotel. They gave me room 001 adjacent to the lobby and elevator (noisy). In hindsight I should have asked to be moved, but I feared getting a room on the buy street. In short, it is perfectly acceptable if you want to stay reasonably cheaply in an expenive city and don't plan on doing anything there except showering and sleeping. Service is a bit lacking, but that is almost expected in a hotel of this star rating.
