There is a choice of two restaurants at the hotel; the Grill Rooftop Restaurant, where a spectacular view of the surrounding city and mountains together with an elegant á la Carte menu can be enjoyed. The Garden Restaurant Skrudur offers a light buffet for lunch but also an exciting menu throughout the day. In the hotel there are several comfortable bars and lounges where our guests can relax and enjoy themselves. Our two bars include the rooftop Astra Bar and the popular Mímisbar on the ground floor.

We stayed here 3 nights at the end of May and didn't have a great experience. Firstly - the double room we had booked turned out to be a twin - apparently almost all their rooms are so they just pushed the two single beds together and added a double bed sheet (although we were left with two single quilt covers). Late on the first night we discovered a problem with the bath - the only water we could get was scalding hot. Before 8am the following morning we reported the problem and asked that it be fixed while we were out on a tour that day. When we returned in the evening a quick turn of the tap gave cold water, but when we tried running a bath later that night again it would only give hot water. It was reported to reception before 8am the next morning and we were assured it would be fixed while we were out that day. On our return we turned on the tap to get - yet again - scalding hot water. I traipsed down to the front desk and was told the janitor had been and the problem had been fixed but she would have a look at the problem. On doing so and agreeing it was clearly faulty we were finally moved to another room - with a token apology. Now of course plumbing problems can always occur but they should have moved us after the first night if they couldn't have fixed the problem - and they certainly shouldn't have said it was fixed without testing it thoroughly. There was also no sense of understanding just how inconvenient it was to have all the hassle - and certainly no offer of an upgraded room when we were finally moved or bottle of wine etc. Okay, ignoring our problems with the water how was the hotel? Well the breakfast buffet (cereals, fruit, hot sausages, bacon, potatoes, cold meat & cheeses, omlettes to order etc) was certainly impressive and meant we were able to skip having lunch each day - although items were at times not replenished so make sure you don't wait until after 9am. The location is also a bit of a problem - it's a good 10 minutes walk from the centre and it's beside a busy road so you don't even have the benefit of a quieter location. All in, even if you don't encounter problems like we did, I'm pretty sure there are much better alternatives for the price.
