Metropole Hotel - Riga, Latvia

I'm actually writing the review from the hotel itself! As this was my first visit to Riga I didn't really know what to expect and the hotel really impressed me. The check-in process was efficient and fast, and the in general the staff were very nice and knew excellent English which helped quite a bit! As far as the location of the hotel goes, you really cannot ask anymore from it - it's located to the south-east of most of the main attractions in the Old Town, in fact when I stayed here we didn't use the tram once and traveled everywhere by foot! It's next to the Central Market, Central Train Station and a shopping mall as well. Serviceswise, it was also good - the rooms were clean, and even though they were facing traffic and when we were here there was only 4 (!) hours of darkness, the curtains blocked most of the light and I think they have a double-glass window so you'll barely notice the noise. All in all it was a fantastic stay and I would defintaely recommend it to anyone looking for tourism in Riga.

The Metropole is good value! Excellent location for Old Town, Opera, Markets, Cinema, Bus Station and just a short walk to the Occupation Museum (which was really interesting.) The hotel staff were very efficient, helpful and spoke good English. Beautiful stained glass windows on the stairs. Loved the late breakfast on Sunday til 11am! We hate rushing down to catch breakfast but this was really relaxing! Good selection at breakfast, room very spacious, warm, clean and comfortable. Personally I like a bath with bubbles up to my ears, but only had a shower in our room. Heyho! I'm not complaining as we had a great stay and would definitely go back to the Metropole. Loved it!

Good Location

Just returned from weekend in Riga. Booked triple room (for 3 adults) . I asked them to put us in a quiet room but as all the family rooms were facing the front (and hence the noise of the trams outside), they put us on the 6th floor. Thank god they did as the noise of the trams from 6am every morning must have been pretty bad if you were on the other floors. When we arrived to the Metropole, we got to our room and there was only a double bed and a sofa bed (not made up). I checked with reception (the most unfriendliest human ever) to see if there was a mistake as i was expecting a double and single bed. He said they dont do triple rooms .. !!! and that the sofa bed was our extra bed. There was no sign of him to offer sheets or duvet or help to make up the sofa bed so we asked for some.. but in the end we ended up making the bed ourselves.. I wouldnt mind this normally but it was his attitude that got up my goat and then fact that we were paying a fair bit of money for the room and we get 2 of the worst beds ever and have to make up our own bed !! Anyway as for the hotel itself, its great location wise, down the road from bars/restaurants and sites. You couldnt ask for better. but be aware of the trams.. they make a lot of noise.. The food for lunch is great in the hotel restaurant (toasted ham sandwich and brocolli soup.. portons are huge ). The breakfast is also great !!
