I have read some of the reviews of this hotel, posted on TRIP ADVISOR, and must confess to being mystified. How ANYONE could find fault with this superb hotel is utterly beyond me. The level of comfort and service was truly exemplary, as good as a 5* West End hotel in London, and with better, more polite and charming staff than you would find in some of the more pompous establishments there. Rooms are large and bathrooms luxurious. The beds are very comfortable indeed and the breakfast is a wonderful experience in the exquisite Orangerie Restaurant, with a la carte dishes available too. There was NO problem with smoking in this hotel, and two entire floors of non-smoking rooms certainly should satisfy those guests requiring a smoke free atmosphere. I would love to return here soon, for a longer stay. There are few hotels in this part of the world that could possibly match the Grand Palace. Go there as soon as you can...and enjoy Riga too! A great, cosmopolitan city with fabulous restaurants and nice local people!

This is a lovely hotel in the old section of the city. The room was very pretty, clean and comfortable. But, it was too warm and humid not to have air conditioning. We had a good meal in the restaurant and found the staff to be very accomodating. The fitness center was a sad affair but we found our way to a health club at the Radisson. Breakfast was nice but drinks at the bar very pricey. Overall we found Riga to be rather dull and the people seemed dour. The old part of the city is very pretty but, at least when we were there, not very lively.

The hotel was superb in all aspects: location, friendliness, food. All places of interest within 10 minutes walking but beware the cobblestone streets ! Even had champagne for breakfast and a chocolate on our pillow each evening ! However, the one minor aspect that I found surprising was the fact that guests had to pay to use the Spa, Sauna and gym between certain hours ! For a 5* hotel I find that astonishing.

No elevator from the street to the reception. Noboby wanted to serve us lunch,we waited for 20 min before leaving the diningroom,no problem because there are many restraunts in the "neighborhood".We take the same hotel next time in Riga. Sinc dr. resellmo

we went in winter, the staff and the hotel facilities were wonderful, in particular the massage therapist. the only minus was the fact that the internet and other tv/radio services in the room were too expensive. rate the staff at five stars, and the food was perfect.
