"Fantastic Hotel Viesturs!"

Just back from a fantastic three days in Riga, staying in Hotel Viesturs. What a lovely experience - the helpful and pleasant staff on the desk, the superb breakfast (porridge or pancakes or omelettes etc., cooked in an instant in front of you) served by another charming young lady, the rooms, each one with its own character and pleasantly warm in spite of the snowy/icy conditions outside - all contributed to a memorable holiday in Riga. We would definitely recommend this hotel, with its very central and extremely quiet location in the Old City, to anyone planning a trip to Riga

This little hotel is a gem in Riga where there are lots and lots of noisy areas and bachelor/hen nights etc. It is off the main street and in a quiet area yet very convenient to everything. I went with a friend and we booked a room to share with two twin beds. The rooms are smallish, but why do you need a huge room when you are there to see the sights?! We found everything lovely, especially the amazing breakfast with made-to-order pancakes etc included!

Mediocre
the good, the bad and the laughable

The best things about this hotel are: -its location in the old town, -not too pricey, -no traffic outside, -a good choice of food at breakfast time (from delicious coconut cakes to pickled mushrooms). The bad and laughable things are the extra charges: - if you need an extra pillow they charge by the day regardless of why you need the extra pillow, - if you needed more soap (bring your own theirs are titchy), - in fact, there seems to be an extra charge for EVERYTHING imaginable - from any damage to their wallpaper, the windows, cupboards, toilet bowl, I mean for goodness sakes, do they think guests are coming to smash their rooms up or something?!!! -they have a dry cleaning list with charges, and there's a different charge for dry cleaning a small towel, a medium sized towel, and a large towel! There's even a charge to dry clean a handkerchief and a pair of socks!!!! Good grief!! Because of the above, I didn't even bother to ask for the pancakes on their seperate breakfast menu as no doubt they might have charged for that too! The minibar seemed quite reasonable at first, until you compare the prices with supermarkets and local shops. I would stay here again but next time I'd bring all my own toiletries and not rely on the less than adequate rationed amount the hotel did supply.
