The hotel’s site possesses high historical value, since it was part of the plot of land selected by Bishop Albert as the location for his Baltic residence back in 1210. However, the medieval wooden housing was destroyed by fire in the 17th century. The architectural ensemble comprising Jauniela Street dates back to the 18th century. The façade of the hotel itself underwent the last major change in 1874. The building hosted a tavern in the early 19th century, which was later replaced by a typography and lithography service. In the 20th century it was occupied by artisan workshops, pharmaceutical laboratories, and then a cinema gallery and offices.
The newly opened gourmet restaurant "Le Crabe" is located on the first floor of Hotel Justus and offers French cuisine and a wide range of seafood dishes. The restaurant serves the breakfast buffet (included in the room rates) from 07:30 to 10:30 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 11:00 on weekends. A la carte breakfasts are also available. From late spring to early autumn you can also dine on the terrace.
