Artis Centrum Hotel - Vilnius, Lithuania     

The Hotel Artis is fantastic value, we were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite and this was fantastic, I have stayed here twice and the other rooms are very good too. The hotel is very central only a 5 minute walk from the Cathedral and the main shopping street and also the old town. The breakfast is very good with a full selection of hot and cold food. The staff are very helpful and there are some great tourist mags in the foyer. If you are visiting Vlnius for the first time don't miss the KGB museum, this is a very interesting place although a bit shocking especially when you learn that it was still used as a prison and interrogation centre as close as 1991. A great place to eat is La Hacienda part of the Hotel Malboro who do fabulous steaks and the Italian restaurant Sorrento's. For lunch you could do a lot worse than a pizza at Pizza Jazz. Cocktails are a must at the Sky Bar, part of the Regal Hotel, and at £2.50 each you can't go wrong. All in all Vilnius is fantastic value for money.

We spent two nights at the Artis after we were bumped from our reservation at a sister Centrum hotel. We were actually pleased by the bump because the Artis was a nicer hotel in a more central location -- all for the same price. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet area only steps from all the Old Town sites (of course, the hotel itself is in Old Town as well). It was very easy to duck in and out of the hotel during the day as necessary, and everything is in close proximity. The rooms were modern, comfortable, clean, and quiet. The breakfast was also quite nice. Yes, the staff could have been a little more friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and such, but that was not a big deal. Other Vilnius residents were forthcoming with their own recommendations. I would certainly stay here again.
