One of the founders of the Jesuit order of priests, Frances Xavier landed in Kagoshima in 1549 and strived in his propagation of the Christian faith.
Satue of Saigo Takamori
The statue of Takamori Saigo in his military uniform was erected 50 years after his death in comemoration of his contribution to the Meiji Restoration.
Ishibashi Park
Three stone bridges all of which were washed away by floods were moved here and restored to their original form. There is a memorial hall which explains abour the history of the bridges and the techniques that were used to build them.
Kagoshima Aquarium
Located in the urban area of Kagoshima City, this aquarium was built to preserve the marine environment and to convey to future generations about underwater beauty. Dolphins come to play in the nearby ocean and little fish swim in and out of the sea anamones under the bridge.
