My daughter and I spent one night at the Byblos Art Hotel outside Verona and, after the crowds and bustle of Rome and Florence, it was a heavenly experience. The hotel occupies a beautiful 15th century villa, restored with great care and in a way that blends very well with the contemporary furnishing and art works. There appears to be a tie-in the with Byblos fashion line and the hotel also serves as a show-place for some very interesting art, including pieces from the likes of Peter Halley and Cindy Sherman. The art aside, the hotel is really fabulous: each room is different and very comfortable and well-equipped. The price includes use of the spa which reminded me a little of the indoor pool at Hearst Castle ! We made good use of the hydromassage facility, the sauna, the Turkish bath and the wonderful "tropical" shower. We ate dinner at the hotel's Ristorante Atelier where the food and service were excellent. Gianni, the maitre d' and sommelier was extremely knowledgeable about wine and the next day he took us to visit a winery where we had a tour which included a barrel tasting. It was most interesting. Mauro, the bar tender in Peter's Bar was charming and the rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel grounds are beautiful, wonderfully landscaped and include a very inviting swimming pool. I only wish we could have stayed there longer.
