The handrail on the stairs was loose which concerned me, especially as all the luggage had to be carried upstairs. One of our party fell when coming downstairs with his case which resulted n him being hospitalisised. The room we had smelt of cigarettes and opened directly onto a public footpath. The Venere directions to the hotel were inadequate(a probleb we have found before) The breakfast was better than we had been led by other reviewers to expect.
We used this as a one night accommodation stop at the end of a cruise holiday before our return home. The person on reception was very friendly and helpful. He answered our questions about the water buses and supplied us with a map. The room was fine. As we had to leave early in the morning for our flight home we were too early for breakfast but the garden area where breakfast is served looked very nice. It was fairly easy to find the general area but we had to look hard for the hotel as it is located just off the main street a short way up an alley. We were on the ground floor next to the alley but there was no noise at all during the night.
The room was clean, quiet and had good facilities (kitchenette, clean bathroom etc.) although the space itself is a bit cramped in places. The room itself was actually in an apartment building separate from the actual hotel building giving us an unexpected 10 minute walk from where we checked in. It was also somewhat difficult to find the hotel itself as it's located on a small side street and Venice by nature is rather difficult to navigate. Overall we had an excellent stay here, however due to the high demand for rooms in the city in general hotel owners are able to jack up the price a bit so we found the room to be a bit overpriced.
I stayed in the Hotel Ariel Silva for one night in late June. I was pleasantly suprised after reading some not so good reviews. The hotel is down a narrow alley and we did pass it the first time. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel was the cheapest that I could find in Venice at that time of year, but the hotel rooms were clean. We had A/C (which we very much appreciated in the heat!) and an en-suit bathroom. There was no tv in the room and there were no extras, but this didn't bother me at all. The rooms were on the small side, but the beds were fairly large and comfortable. The breakfast was not huge, pre-packaged toast, a white roll and a croissant, but it was just fine. They make a good cappuccino there as well. I would stay again when I'm in Venice. For the price and location it's well worth it.
