We had a wonderful stay in Venice. We loved the location of the hotel, very close to the St. Lucia train station, even shorter than what the map shows, so we missed it at first! It's adjacent to the train station, but it's very quiet and actually a wonderful location, since you don't have to drag your luggage far away through the streets of Venice. Clean, nice service, nice small breakfast. We booked a room with shared bathroom, and to our surprise there were 3 bathrooms just in front our room, all very clean and quiet, not a problem at all. No elevators, but we're a young couple traveling light, so that wasn't a problem either. Good walk to St. Mark square, very safe, and you can get a vaporetto ride to anywhere just down the street. Price was fair, evertyhing in Venice is very expensive, so it was the best deal we could get. Only minor issue: few mosquitos at night, but we brought repelent lotion, so we did well.
Lousy hotel with terrible breakfast area, poor service a huge price. Not clean. The only "advantage": very close to the central railway station and Piazzalle Roma. Very long distance (walk)from Piazza San Marco, however, easy to get to San Marco by vaporetto (channel street boat)
I booked our rooms on internet and there the hotel is availabel trough different company. The problem is that the hotel is placed in different area, but the same pictures. I was really confused about the location.
About service: We should leave Venice by cruisesip and asked the person in the reception how to come to the port. He "sent" us to S. Basilio, but our ship was much nearer and we had to travel back. He ougth to know that it is more than one terminal at the harbour.
Found the service to be incredibly rude from the beginning, when they were going to charge me an extra night for a mistake in booking, till the end, when a water leak erupted in the hall. The facilities were actually decent, but the people who worked there were rude and unhelpful (one receptionaist in particular). I anjooyed my stay at Agli Artisti less than I've enjoyed any hotel stay ever. An awful place.
