Impressive 3 star hotel in Venice Posted: Wed, Jul 09 2008 I have just returned from a 3 night break in Venice, staying at Hotel Scandinavia. When booking, I was aware that good hotels in Venice can be pricey and was a little anxious about what I had booked. I needn't have worried though as our stay at the Scandinavia surpassed all my expectations.
The building is lovely, the rooms spacious and comfortable (with excellent cleaning services), and, for us, none of the problems mentioned in other reviews here.
In addition, the staff were all very friendly and accomodating and the breakfast was good. As has been previously mentioned, the location is excellent with all the main attractions within walking distance.
The only possible downside is that there are four floors but no elevator. However, we are all fairly fit, so our fourth floor rooms didn't present any real problems (and gave some much needed exercise!) If you might have difficulty with all those stairs, get in touch with the hotel to request a room on a lower floor.
All in all, a pleasant stay in Venice - I would book again.
Very Venetian Posted: Wed, Jun 04 2008 We stayed at this hotel for four nights in the middle of April. I've read somewhere this is the place where Othello met Desdemona so as a Sheakespeare lover, I was very happy to stay here, anyway. The location was great, close to everything you might like to see. I especially liked the fact that the hotel is in Campo and our room was overlooking it. By the way, our room was Room 1 and right outside the door is a cozy and lovely lounge. The interior of the hotel is very Venetian and we liked antique furniture here and there and beautiful light (chandelier) and the ceiling.
We enjoyed watching every day life of Venice that was happening in the Campo and surrounding area. Children come to play, dogs walk around as if it were their own backyard and people stopped by at a fruit stand. We watched how they collected garbage and took it away. Eveything reminded us of by-gone days.
The front desk staff spoke very good English and helpful. Breakfast was just fine for us.
The only thing is that there is no lift, but hotel staff is happy to help. We enjoyed the stay very much. One recomendation: if you are a senior, ask for a room on the first floor (which is actually the second in Italy).
