Hotel Santander - Madrid, Spain 

The location of this hotel is brilliant, literally a two minute walk from the metro (either Sol or Sevilla) The rooms are immaculate, showers hot and bed comfortable. However, the hotel seemed a little "stuffy", our room was facing an enclosed courtyard and there was little natural light. But - for something in central Madrid, the room was silent! Was definately a good base, but for 80 euros a night, we found that some of the hostals offr better budget option.

I wouldn't disagree entirely with most of the reviews about this hotel - mainly because of the excellent location - but with some provisos. First you do get what you pay for - this is a pretty run down dated place and the room allocated to us was small and dingy and with no natural light. Second, the customer service is non existant. My wife and I asked the manager the most straightforward of questions and we get a shrug like don't bother me. You feel like you are an imposition/idiot for even asking... . Also just be aware of the no left luggage rule on checkout. It seems a bit mean spirited as there appears to be the room in the hotel. We ended up lugging it to Atocha station (the nearest alternative) . Again this policy just seems to demonstrate the lack of interest the Santander show once you have signed up. Agree the location is terrific but if cost is your only other thing - which other reviewers here rave about - would suggest you save even more and consider the hostels which are littered around the exact same area . They looked pretty similar in standard to the Santander. For others wanting a genuine hotel service this hotel will be a dissapointment.
