Location

Hotel Mediterraneo is located in Sant Agnello di Sorrento, in one of the most spectacular areas of the Sorrento Peninsula.
Here, the tufa coastline hangs over the sea. We are located 50 kilometers from Naples and 25 kilometers from the Ercolano and Pompeii excavations. We are 13 kilometers from Positano, 30 kilometers from Amalfi and a 15 minute boat ride from Capri.
This area has always been a tourist destination thanks to its mild year round climate and the Sorrento Peninsula is just waiting to be explored by land or sea to allow you to discover the many picturesque villages along the coast. These villages are artistic and cultural testimonies to the history of Sorrento, the amazing sea around the marine reserve in Punta Campanella, the craftwork carried out on wood inlays and tiles and the flavors of food and wine specialties.

Sorrento dates back to ancient Greek times. Then it hosted the Romans and in the historic center to this day there are alleys with Roman "decumano" roads.
There are numerous Aragonese testimonies from the seventeenth-century, which are evident on the doors of noble family residences decorated with the traditional tiles.
In 1554 the poet Torquato Tasso was born here and in the eighteenth-century Sorrento became the destination of many artists from around Europe who arrived in Italy to study art and find inspiration, including Byron, Goethe and Wagner who lived in the city.
You really must see St. Anthony's Basilica, which dates back to the year 1000 with many decorative votives from sailors and fishermen who survived the floods. Also worth a visit, the picturesque San Francesco Pavilion, the Bottega della Tarsia Lignea Museum, which is testimony to the popular art of wood inlays, and the Romanesque Cathedral, the Sedile Dominova, an elegant building from the fifteenth-century where nobles would once meet to discuss city affairs.
Shopping in Sorrento takes place in Via San Cesareo, where shops and boutiques allow you to choose from the colorful artistic ceramics and wood inlay objects, works in coral set in real jewelry and refined lace and embroidery.
Food and wine specialties are a chapter in their own right: in primis those based on lemons. You really must try the lemon delights, Sorrento dessert with a Madeira base and lemon cream and Limoncello, the internationally renowned liquor; you can also try the excellent extra virgin olive oil from the Sorrento Peninsula, Provolone del Monaco cheese with its intense, spicy flavor, excellent Sorrento walnuts, which are tender and have little oil content; Campana mozzarella processed in its typical plait style.
Three excellent wines from the Peninsula with age-old tradition can accompany the delights presented at your table. They are Lettere, Gragnano and Sorrento, already recognized by Plinio and Columella.
Of the local excursions, we would like to highlight the most evocative which takes place by sea: Punta Campanella, on the extreme of the Sorrento Peninsula, a sea reserve and mythical home of the Sirens, where Ulysses was lured by their song into the arms of the sea between the Punta and Capri. The legend says that the Li Galli islands are the Sirens that fall into the sea when Ulyses refused to visit them.
You really can't miss Leranto Bay, which is even more beautiful and magical.

Dining

The beautiful terrace off the sun room is an ideal place to sunbathe and relax while sipping a cocktail from the bar. You could also try a real Neapolitan pizza out in the open air pizzeria in the garden.
Hotel Mediterraneo's gem is its restaurant terrace. Offering a fifth floor panorama, you can enjoy a wonderful view which ranges from the Sorrento Peninsula to the Gulf of Naples, with the island of Capri in the background.
The evening is truly picturesque at sunset, with a red sky and the lights of distant villages that crown an area of unforgettable and astounding beauty.
The restaurant kitchen proposes international cuisine, with particular attention to traditional dishes from Sorrento and Naples.
There is a vast cellar where you can choose the best wines to accompany your dishes and courses, as advised by our sommelier.

The hotel Mediterraneo is a wonderful place to stay; we booked a garden room which was spacious, clean and air conditioned. I thoroughly recommend this hotel to everyone although it is a 25 minute flat walk to the centre of Sorrento (there is a courtesy bus which runs intermittently throughout the day) but this didn’t bother us as it is a good way to work up an appetite of walk off a big dinner. The hotel staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly and the breakfast is substantial with pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereals all on offer, the restaurant looks out over the sea and I couldn’t think of a nicer way to wake up to the day. One of the best things about the hotel is the pool area, there are plenty of sun beds and towels free of charge and the pool is ever so slightly warm, still refreshing but very easy to get into. Also the restaurant by the pool does the best burger I have eaten. There is a lovely little bar/restaurant at the front of the hotel (not part of) looking over the sea which is also recommended. I would definitely return, tomorrow if I could!

We stayed at the Mediterraneo for 8 nights during our Honeymoon and absolutely loved it. We actually changed our plans and stayed for three extra days as we liked it there so much! Dinner on the terrace watching the sun set had to be one of the highlights of the trip. The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was brilliant and the location suited us perfectly. The room was on the small side, and not quite up the standard of the rest of the hotel, but the views more than made up for it. The pool and gardens were lovely, lots of room and very relaxing. It took us 25 minutes to walk into Sorrento, but we also used the bus which stops right outside the hotel (although there was one day when it didn't arrive). Generally the service was great. We have vowed that we will return, and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.
