I booked into the Villa Rosa hotel before reading the posted message "Villa Nightmare". I have to say I don't understand what some people want for there money! The hotel was clean efficient and the staff were friendly and definately no bad smells! A Good breakfast was provided and parking (although limited was fine). I was staying with three friends who all had clean rooms, not massive but with subtle decoration and fresh bed linen and towels daily and most important powerfull showers. I couldn't find any walls with anti climb paint and the wall outside the hotel where you were most likely to sit was completly clear. The only criticism if any would be that if you get a front room you can here the traffic but even that's not too loud and lets face it your in Rome!I think for a budget hotel you couldn't ask for more.

The hotel was diffiult to find and instructions of how to get there are poor. It is in a rough area of rome. Next to a very noisy road. The room I spent the first night in had no curtains and was very small. They demanded full payment before we were allowed to stay.

We decided to choose a three star hotel slightly outside of the main tourist areas in Rome because we figured we'd get more for the money - boy were we wrong! It was so far out of the city that no one at the train station (information desk, hotel desk, bus drivers, etc) knew where it was, and we ended up having to get a cab (which are expensive!). The hotel looked nice in the lobby, but the rooms looked NOTHING like the photos on their website - it was so small that we barely had enough room to open our luggage. The bathroom was tiny, and we didn't have hot water for the first three days. The floors in the bathroom were peeling up around the shower, and there was mold in the shower and on the wall. It also looked as though they had removed a tile, though god knows what they replaced it with because it looked like some sort of growth coming out of the wall. It was really difficult to shower there! The ONLY positive of this hotel was that it's near the Trastevere district, which is known for it's restaurants and nightlife. It was a short trolley ride to get there. Otherwise, this place was awful.

Staff was very helpful. We were disappointed in location-appeared much closer to Tiber River on map, and was in a rather grungy area when one descended the stairs to vialle di Trastevere. Rooms were small as expected.
