This was our first trip to Rome and we stayed at the Trilussa. It was wonderful! The staff was very courteous, helpful and patient with us non-Italian speaking tourists. There was a breakfast buffet that was included in the price of our room that always had a nice variety of pastries, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, meats and cheeses, cereal, milk, juices and coffee. The room was very clean, nicely furnished with comfortable beds and had a nice balcony. One of the things we liked best about this hotel was its location. It is tucked away in a nice quiet residential area of the city yet is very close to downtown. There are tram and bus stops directly in front of the hotel that take you to the center of Rome in about 5 minutes. The neighborhood also had many small cafes with reasonably priced delicious food. This was the perfect place for us to stay. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and family and if we make it back to Rome again we will definitely stay at the Trilussa.
The original room we had was a double on the 3rd floor, and it was inadequate (just too small for us). We wanted to leave the next day, but the manager was quite amenable, so we agreed to try the suite (a very nice, large room on 6th floor). We were quite happy with THAT room, and for a couple, the suite is the best (or perhaps only) option in this hotel. Breakfast, staff, facilities were all fine (though not remarkable). I would also recommend asking for the quiet side of the building. On Sunday, a BIG street/antique market sets up across the street (runs for 10-20 blocks). One good trattoria just down the street 1.5 blocks (same side). All in all, what it lacks in location it makes up for in its price (even after factoring in some cab rides, street cars and/or buses). If you plan on going there directly from the train station, just take a cab, as the H bus is crowded and unpredictable.
The hotel is located in the outskirts of Rome but because of this it has larger rooms and a larger bathroom. And the surrounding area restaurants are more moderately priced. The tram is very convenient and easy to use to get you where you need to go. The front desk is VERY helpful giving lots of information and the rooftop bar is beautiful with a very friendly bartender.
