5The Solis is a brilliantly-located hotel, right in the heart of the Forum/Colosseum area near plenty of restaurants and bars. Our room was tiny, just enough room to walk around the bed, but it was a very comfortable bed and the room was clean and well sound-proofed once the windows were closed. There is no storage space other than a wardrobe (no drawers) and no chair, and the TV choice of channels didn’t include any English ones (sorry, our Italian is not that good), but we really didn’t spend a lot of time there other than to sleep. The hotel’s entry on Expedia is very impressive, the reality perhaps a little less polished – yes, there is a shower, but it didn’t stay in the rest, soaking the bathroom on one occasion. There are complimentary slippers (one pair) and toiletries (one set, not replenished). The bathroom phone must be the bigger rooms, we didn’t get that, nor the bidet. The staff are friendly and helpful, although we did arrive a little later than usual down to breakfast one day and had to swipe some uneaten croissants from another table as we obviously weren’t going to be provided with anything fresh. Continental only, but certainly enough to get us through the day. We’d go there again but if you want something fancy or are going to spend some time in your hotel, try somewhere else.
