Read the posts on this hotel before going so was quite aprehensive. First thing is that you can easily walk from the Termini without getting on the metro. Start as you mean to go on as you will be doing alot of walking! When we arrived we got the lift up to the first floor (the only time we actually used it!). Yes it is old and the bell is annoying but hey, when in Rome!! The hotel is very small, only 6 bedrooms so don't expect anything on a grand scale. Saying that, when we arrived (around 12.30pm) we were shown to a twin-bedded room. When we asked if we could have a double they immediately showed us to another room. Only downside to this room was that the window was about 12 foot off the ground so no view at all unless you are a basketball player!! Also the air-con didn't work but both of these were not big problems. Bathroom was more than adequate with a shower etc with hot water on demand. Breakfast was ok, croissants, sweet rolls and dried toast, jams and butter choice of tea or coffee. Set us up nicely for the day. The hotel is pretty central and the buses are brilliant. I would not say it is really near to any of the major sites but everywhere is so easily accessable, no more than 30 mins walk or 10 mins bus ride. Would recommend this hotel as a good base, we just showered and slept here!!

I spent the first two nights in a room marked "private" outside, where the water wouldn't evacuate in the shower, the airconditionning didn't work, the advertised DVD function didn't work, there was so little space in some parts of the room that you first had to close one door to be able to open the other... fortunately I was later given another room, as they couldn't fix the airconditioner. The person who travelled with me occupied another room where the window opened up into a cleaning cabinet...! After the first night, we were asked to move out of our two "single" rooms into one double room - for just one night... we obviously refused that! Another morning I had to leave my room and have breakfast in my friend's stuffy room (there are no breakfast facilities so it's served in the rooms) as they were trying to fix the airconditioner.. For payment, in the end, they wouldn't accept our credit cards, as apparently "it didn't work" that day... we had to get cash from a cash machine!! I do not recommend this place for the above-mentioned reasons - otherwise its location is great!! and the second room I occupied was nice + friendly - so if you're lucky and get a good room... why not?

November 26, 2007. I have just returned from Rome where I spent 6 wonderful days. I stayed at Augustus, a very enjoyable place where I had breakfasts in bed while marveling at the ancient Roman ruins right under my window. The room was spotless clean and quiet especially at night time. It had plazma TV with an easy and free-of-charge access to the Net. But what is the best feature about the hotel is its location, in the middle of everything and within walking distance. And finally a few words of praise for the staff, especially, Romano. I dont know what I would have done without their help and excellent knowledge of the city. They go out of their way to try to help a lone traveler, like me, who cannot but feel lost in a not-so-tourist friendly city like Rome. Thank you, Romano. One last word, about the price. I found this hotel thru comparing prices on the Internet offered by various travel agencies. Then I called the hotel directly and asked if they could accommodate me at the lowest price I could find, and they did. The only negative comment I can make, I wish the morning croissants could be fresh, not those commercial cellophane wrapped pieces of sweet bread. Elena, FRANCE
