I booked the Hotel Rex based upon the feedback on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed. The hotel is in a good location, 5 mins walk from the Termini train station and easy to find, go out of the main train station exit, turn left up via Cavour walk four blocks and then turn right up Via Torino. and walk for another 2 blocks.
I thought the location was good, we booked a 2 day Hop on Hop off bus tour ticket and found out that the closet stop from the Rex was about a 3 minute walk, turn left out of the hotel and walk to the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, most stops when facing the Basilica are to the right.
The Rooms were large enough and of a decent standard, the one drawback for us was that the air conditioning was not robust enough for the room (although my brother who was in a different room said his was working well )and as it was July it was too hot at night but on the plus side the street is very quiet for Rome.
The Breakfast was included in our room rate and offered a wide selection of cereals, fruit, bread, cheese and cold meats, juices, coffee, scrambled and hard boiled eggs so enought for most palets, there were alsoplenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk in any direction of the hotel
As a closing statement I would stay here again

This was our first visit to Rome so we had very little that we were sure about. We wanted to be close to Termini and we wanted an authentic Roman Hotel.
It took about 10 minutes to walk from Termini to the hotel while pulling luggage. Not bad. In fact it was easier than we expected. The map we had seen led us to believe it would be a little further.
The staff at the front desk and housekeeping were perfectly friendly and offered us help on a variety of subjects. Being adventurous we tended to venture out on our own and we had a great time just looking around and seeing what we could find. We ate where and when we wanted. We didn't bother with the optional in-hotel breakfast. We preferred to do some sight-seeing on our way. The breakfast looked sufficient but it wasn't very tempting as we walked past.
The only real need we had for our room was a place to leave our luggage, clean up upon our return and sleep a few hours before starting again. We never spent more than 8 hours in our room in any given day.
The room was clean, but rather dated. Old and authentic was what we wanted, so it was fine. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with soap, shampooo, towels, etc. The bed was firm and clean. My biggest complaint was the air conditioner. The light came on and I could hear the fan blowing, but I couldn't feel any air coming out. It got rather warm during the day in the room. In the evening, we opened the window and slept just fine. The street was rather quiet and we could sleep until 6 or 6:30 before the road noise finally got our attention. The lighting was sufficient. The mini-fridge didn't work at all.
We would stay again due to the location and the wonderful staff.
Bonus: There was a wonderful little market in the street just outside the hotel entrance. We could see it from our room. I would get a cup of coffee and check it out each morning. My only purchase was some wonderful cherries that we snacked on for a couple of days.
