We toured Rome for 5 days, while staying at the Mascagni. It was centrally located and the staff was EXTREMELY accomodating to every need. It only had one down side, the bed was so hard we thought we were sleeping on a wooden board. We even checked to see if we were on the box springs instead of the mattress! Other than that it was a perfect place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone. English speaking tours can be booked right at their front desk and they will also arrange airport pick-up for 75 Euros (although the main train station is in walking distance)

After researching reviews for 4 star hotels in Rome, we found the Mascagni had the best reviews.
My husband and I stayed for 7 days with our 3-year old son in Room 507. My father in law was in room 505.
The service was excellent and always delivered with a smile. The staff loved having a little one around. The room size and bed were quite typical of any hotel you will find anywhere in Europe...small room, firm bed with flat pillows. The staff will gladly supply extra pillows.
The bathroom is also typical of European bathrooms that you may not be accustomed to. The bath faucets have a hose that will help you prevent a flood on the bathroom floor. They do not use shower curtains and the glass partition is not enough to keep the water in the tub. So we were sure to shower in the mornings before the cleaning crew came to clean up the small lake on the floor.
Even if you have a room facing the street, with the window closed, you won't hear a sound outside...very quiet.
Francesco at the bar was very pleasant. While at the bar, we met a couple from Australia who visits Rome regularly and this was their 18th stay at the Mascagni Hotel!!! They said they love the service, and it felt like home away from home.
The taxi stand is just across the street, the ATM is just a few stores down, the metro is just a few steps further. The location is very convenient to transportation including the main train station, Termini.
The hotel staff made an excellent restaurant recommendation (La Matriciana). If you decide to take the tour on the double decker bus, buy your ticket on the bus. We bought ours through the hotel and found out it was 3 Euros more because they have to get their cut.
We really enjoyed the hotel, and would go back.
