Art by The Spanish Steps details:  It is the verses of poets that guide the guests to the hotel Art by The Spanish Steps, recently opened in via Margutta, the very artistic heart of Rome, just a few steps from the Spanish Steps. Its artistic vocation stems not only from its location or the fact of being housed in a former college, but also because art is the link connecting all its different components. A long pedestrian corridor with walls of gleaming white marble, paved with white pebbles and lit by a creation of the artist Enzo Catellani, leads to the hall. In this exclusive setting, the property offers a restaurant, a bar, ADSL/Wi-Fi Internet connection and a fitness room. You won't find any hotel sign. The hotel entrance is a minimalist passageway hidden by the many art galleries lining via Margutta street.

Rooms

Color is the other keynote of this hotel. The corridors of the four floors housing the 46 rooms and suites are picked out respectively in blue, orange, yellow and green with radiant light at the guests’ entrance. Minimalist milky ways stretch out along the sides of the corridors illuminated with verses by poets like García Lorca and Octavio Paz.

The hi-tech furnishings and bright colors stop on the threshold of each room to make way for wood and leather. The floors are parquet and the headboards a hand-stitched patchwork of Florentine leather. The rooms are equipped with the most sophisticated facilities including a cordless keyboard for web surfing and satellite television.

What Travellers Like

  • It is located on a quiet street with antique shops and quaint, upscale restaurants. The location is excellent as it is close to the Spanish Steps and the trendy shops on Via del Condotti. You always had the option of the quiet of the hotel or the buzz of the Piazza di Spagna. The beds were firm and the linens were plush. The bathrooms were clean and modern and the maid made sure we always had fresh towels. They thought of every detail from the robes and slippers to the fresh fruit left in the room upon our arrival.. • Our room was on the smallish side even though we had paid more for an upgraded room. We found out that that the rooms on the left side when you step out of the elevator are larger. We were told that we would be getting an upgraded room and even paid extra for it, but didn't get one. We had a very small, but clean and tidy room. I liked all their amenities from slippers, bath robes to hair dryer to soaps, etc. We were only there for one night passing through and if we had been there for more nights we would have asked for an 04 or 05 room. We definately would stay there again asking specifically for a larger room. We were on the orange floor and the floor lit up when you stepped off of the elevator. The staff was warm, friendly and very helpful.. Read review

  • The staff were unfriendly where simple requests were met with eye rolling and sighs. The concierge made one poor recommendation after another - thankfully we befriended others around Rome who made more successful recommendations. This place has the "look" but not the local knowledge, nor the service to back it up.. Read review

  • Ok, the rooms aren't huge, but our de-luxe was both comfortable and roomy, well-designed and well-furnished. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful - and we don't speak any Italian. The location is as good as it gets in Rome - surrounded by galleries and top designer shops, on a stunning and quiet sidestreet only a few minutes walk from the Spanish Steps. If you want flowery wallpapers, velvet drapes, antique furniture, gilded mirrors and repro-renaissance art, then this hotel is not for you. If you want someting different in a great location at a reasonable price (for Rome), then try the Art Hotel.. Read review
