Dasamo Hotel - Rimini, Italy

The Dasamo is a good 3-4 star hotel, excellent if you want an Italian beach holiday break with young children (which we did). It's only about 75m from a beach which is like a large swimming-pool, as artifical rocks about 100m out shelter it, you have to go between the rocks if you want to swim in water more than 1m deep. The beach is lined with kids' playgrounds, offering different kids of rides (bumper-cars, trampoline, merry-go-round) in the evenings for a few euros (though it mounts up!). The hotel itself has a nice little pool, with a small kid's play-area next to it, with tables for the adults. They offer half-board, good if you are big eaters, but we only had dinner there one night out of three -- we found the fish restaurant a street away offered more choice (though you have to book). The hotel is family-run (like most small Italian hotels), and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Kind of far from the main area and you have to pay for the beach access but great if you're traveling with a larger group and want to share rooms. We had 5 twin beds in a room and it had a little balcony and a clean bathroom for not that much money. A little off the beaten path but a good value for the money. Family run place, you can ask the owners for local advice on restuarants, etc. Not exactly luxious but I would return.
